I mean, this was something I picked up early in this life since I was never a close-combat kind of person in my past life.
I felt being a mage was good, but not enough in certain circumstances, so I knew I had to become like my mother… who was not only a mage but also wielded a sword in tandem with her magic.
"Huff… huff… huff… the air… is so damn thin up here," I muttered as I was gasping for air after just a quick jog.
And all while this was happening, the knights were still running circles at an even pace in their actual metal armor.
What monsters…
…
About a week of training had passed, and since I was already familiar with mama, my stay here was cut short.
I wasn't given any time to connect and really get to know her since I practically already knew everything about her.
But, on the last night that I was there, I climbed out of my bed and walked down the pitch-black hallways in the middle of the night.
It was silent but peaceful as moonlight attempted to crack through the windows and make a name for itself right then and there.
Strands of this moonlight almost seemed to want my attention as they grazed my pale skin and wrapped their cold hands around my shoulders.
"It's comforting," I could only mutter before swiftly turning the corner and finding my mother's bedroom.
When I slowly opened the door, I was greeted by nothing but an empty bed and a single maid helping to clean off the collecting dust, as my mother rarely ever used it.
"Young Miss, can you not sleep?" The maid quickly ran over to me and bent down, placing her hands on her knees in order to reach my level.
Normal servants in any other place would be bowing down with their foreheads pressed against the floor, but I never liked such servitude, so I requested for them to be more familiar… and it seems they had no problem adjusting.
"Where is Mama?" I asked with the most adorable expression I could muster since I could tell she was ready to send me back to my room.
She hesitated for just a moment before letting out a long sigh and lightly grabbing my pale and soft hand.
"Follow me," She gently smiled before walking me through the large castle and eventually taking me to a room I had no clue even existed.
It was hidden away deep in the corner of the castle, yet the door was grand and large enough to be the entrance to the damn stone fortress.
"What is… here?"
"You'll see~," She muttered before slowly pushing open the large doors and revealing a massive library that towered over me.
If even one of the bookshelves fell on top of me, there was no doubt I would die, but thankfully they seemed to be bolted into the wall.
"This is where your mother comes when she wants to take a break. I try to persuade her to rest in her bedroom, but she always just falls asleep in here… Now… quiet down otherwise, her amazing hearing will catch onto us," The maid gave me a shushing sign, and as I slowly nodded with a drop of sweat running down my cheek, we soon turned a corner.
"Geez… she didn't even put any of her books away," I muttered as I found my mother laying on a large beanbag, completely buried underneath a stack of books that towered over her.
"Ahem! Mistress, you have a guest," My maid dared to interrupt her peaceful sleep, and as I expected her to lash out with some verbal attack, she just slowly got up and turned towards my shaking body.
"W-What have you done?" I whispered, but her reaction was calmer than expected.
"Oh, Charlotte… Did I… Shit," Mama muttered before looking at the books scattered around her, slowly pushing them off and clearing some space on the bean bag.
"Go on, Young Miss… this is what you wanted from the start, right?" The observant maid asked with a light smirk before giving my back a small push.
"D-Don't push me," I attempted to reprimand her, but it seemed I was too young to get anything across.
She just lightly chuckled before I walked over to my tired mother, who welcomed me with open arms.
"My sweet child… You're as adorable as your other mother,"
I couldn't even respond to her since she was just so warm, and my body felt as if it would melt from the comfort of my mother's embrace.
"Now, now, don't suffocate yourself in my breasts," She lightly chuckled before rolling me to the side and helping me catch my breath as I nearly suffocated right then and there.
I could only blush with embarrassment as my mother slowly stroked my hair, embracing me for everything that I had.
"Goodnight, sweetie,"
…
When I awoke the next morning, I found myself somehow waking up before mama, meaning she was really, really tired last night.
Normally, no matter what I tried, I would always wake up after her and would have to go find her in her office or some other place.
"Mama, I have to leave soon," I slowly shook her, and as she slowly began to wake up, I greeted her with a warm smile.
The morning proceeded very swiftly, and soon I was at the very edge of the snow mountain, getting ready to head off.
But, before I departed, my mother ran up to me and hugged me, showering me with kisses and wishing me good luck on my future travels.
"If you ever get troubled by the others, then just call me. I'll be sure to beat them up for you,"
"Mhm… I love you," I muttered with a light blush, and as the woman embraced me one last time, I felt all of my worries about the future slowly disappear.
"I love you too… bye sweetie!" She shouted as I made my way down the stone path leading to civilization.
I waved her goodbye and continued walking, now shaking with anticipation about my future endeavors.
