"Huh… it's a bit outdated," I muttered before feeling a threatening presence step onto the battlefield much faster than I had anticipated.
One of the generals, but not just any general, stepped onto the battlefield, his presence looming over us as if a shadow had blanketed the entire plane of snow.
"Tch… this is gonna be troublesome…." I muttered.
…
(First Commander POV)
As we approached the edge of the forest, blanketed in shadows, making sure nobody saw us, we felt the extreme heat of the tree press up against us.
It was powerful and nearly pushed all of us back, but we continued to press forward, me especially as I knew what I had to do if I wanted to get her back.
My sister… she was taken by that demonic bitch who keeps using us like we're tools, but all we want is to be free and live happy lives.
"Sir, we should start moving again," One of my subordinates muttered, and I quickly nodded before giving the signal for everybody to start moving again.
We traveled deeper and deeper into the forest, making sure to avoid any monsters who we knew we could easily take care of, but their blood would waft towards the enemy, most likely triggering a reaction that would be unfavorable towards us.
As I internally cursed the queen into pieces, I looked back up at the tree which loomed over me, its presence sending shivers down my spine.
"This isn't going to be pretty," I muttered, just imagining this thing falling onto the plane, most likely just cracking it in half.
Our plane isn't the most solid of places, and when compared to everywhere else, this place might as well just be made of the most fragile glass in existence.
Soon, we arrived at the very roots of the tree, which were so big that the demons had actually set up their camps inside of them.
"Everyone, make sure to regulate your body temperature with the shadows. If the heat manages to touch you, you might just end up as a pile of ash," I warned my subordinates before quickly traversing through the ash.
Ash replaced the snow that covered the ground, and once I felt the sandy filling dig up to my knees, we pushed through it.
Our blankets of shadows were perfect camouflage against the piles of ash, so we managed to slip through the camp and into the roots of the tree at a very quick pace.
But what we saw deep inside the tree made all of us cringe with disgust as slaves were being beaten or killed for food.
Some tundra snakes were being kept as pets, and they seemed almost dead inside as they slowly followed around their owners.
I felt the rage of my subordinates travel through the air, but I quickly signaled for them to calm down as we slowly passed by the single most powerful general to exist on this plane.
"Does anybody smell that?" His voice permeated through the air, and all of us froze for just a split second before continuing further into the branch.
"What smell?"
"It smells like assassins," He muttered, and a chill nearly shot down my spine as I leaped to the left of my position, just barely dodging the spear of purple energy that pierced straight through the ground.
A drop of sweat rolled down my cheek as the spear slowly dissipated into the air, leaving me sweating bullets while the rest of my subordinates got into position.
"Hold the small fry back. Running from him is impossible, so I'll take care of him right here and now," I muttered, but my indecisiveness and nerves traveled to my subordinates.
They felt my nervous presence that shook with gallons of fear, my heart nearly jumping out of my mouth as the dangerous general stormed towards me.
"I wish the best of luck to you, sir!" They all shouted before the man clad in black armor let them pass through as he was completely locked onto me.
"Geez… do you not have any intention of letting us through?" I slightly chuckled before summoning my metallic blade in my right hand.
"Of course not. Such a strong opponent is hard to come by," He smiled, his pitch black skin creasing into a demonic form that protruded with long horns and spikes.
He had become something much different than your every other day demon as he was also coated in a deadly purple aura.
My heart was beating so fast that I could audibly hear it through my armor, and once the tension within the air snapped, I swiped up with my sword.
FWOOSH… TING
I swatted away the first two spears that came at me with almost a light-speed attack, but I was also a master of weapons, so I quickly raised my sword up and deflected both in just a split second.
The explosions that ripped through the air from behind me caused the cloth on my armor to wave like rippling flags.
"You're decent," He smirked before bursting towards me, a massive purple lance appearing in his right hand, and as he grabbed it with both just before swinging with all his might, I felt something tug on my ear.
I quickly jumped to the right, just barely dodging the attack that swung for the right side of my body.
"[Swordsman of The Fallen Snow]," I muttered, causing a thousand blades to suddenly appear around me, floating and twirling, picking up an insane amount of momentum.
"You're good!" The general shouted once again before a purple aura burst around his lance, and he jumped towards me at such speed that I was forced to block it with my entire body.
I minimized the damage with my sword that shattered, but the ones floating around me stuck into the massive general, making him look almost like a porcupine.
Blood flowed from his body, and as I attempted to stand up, I noticed how most of the bones in my body had already broken.
"AHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA! ALRIGHT! GOOD! GOOD! THIS IS HOW A FIGHT SHOULD BE!" He shouted before charging towards me once again, his own blood making my newly conjured blade slip off of his armor.
BAM
I was sent flying across the inside of this massive root, and before I could even catch my breath, I felt a piece of metal dig into my back.
"ACK! ARGHHHHHHH!"
I screamed out in pain and just decided to let it all go, activating my last resort card that would most likely make me crippled and unable to wield a sword, but at least I would have a chance of seeing my sister again.
As I coughed up a mouthful of blood, a string of incomprehensible words came flowing from my mouth, revealing themselves only as I raised my voice.
"KING OF FALLEN SNOW!" I shouted before a gray crown floated over my head, and thousands upon thousands of swords swirled around me, cutting straight through the man that had stabbed me from me behind.
I slowly pulled out the massive lance before one of my men came over to heal me and see how I could still move. I pushed on to complete my mission.
Time continuously ticked, and I could hear my timer slowly running out with each passing second, but just as I reached the center of the tree, a deathly pale dark elf appeared before me.
My men, who had just barely managed to clear out the small fry, came running up from behind me and paled at seeing another general who was all supposed to be at the frontlines of the war.
I quickly took a fighting stance before conjuring another thousand blades, feeling my soul get nearly ripped apart as I stood before the man, strong and head held high.
"I thought the girl would make it here… but it seems I'm wrong… though, it doesn't matter. Proceed with your mission," The man muttered, and my eyebrow slightly raised as I looked at him with a suspicious glance.
