Ascend to Godhood Through Grafting: Starting with a God's Arm

Chapter 43: Your Arrogance Will Get You Killed

Out in front of the warehouse, Lucio had already ditched his powerful single-shot rifle and pulled out his short gun to join the fight against the two monsters.

Actually, Freud alone was enough to suppress both fish monsters, but every time he was about to finish them off completely, they'd absorb a bunch of fish corpses and rapidly recover their health, with their flesh reforming right away.

The two hunters didn't have that kind of recovery ability. Freud's wild fighting style meant he'd taken multiple direct hits from the monsters. Even with his crazy high defense, it looked like he couldn't take many more.

This was making the mustachioed hunter pretty anxious.

Unlike his partner's combat style, Lucio preferred keeping his distance and shooting. His bullets packed some seriously terrifying destructive power—those Blazing Sun bullets that burst with intense heat were at least as powerful as David's upgraded Heavy Hammer, if not more.

With nimble dodging and continuous fire, Lucio quickly turned the monster that could split Freud's barrier field into swiss cheese!

Just as the two were about to deliver a fatal blow together, a third terrifying figure suddenly burst out from the fish corpses piled on the dock.

Countless fish mouths formed its body. They opened and closed, teeth chattering away, like a swarm of bloodthirsty piranhas.

This sneaky monster had apparently been hiding in the fish pile the whole time. It waited until Lucio moved nearby, then launched an incredibly swift attack.

Its pounce completely covered Lucio's back. Countless mouths on its body bit into the hunter's limbs, and one giant fish mouth on its chest even tore off Lucio's arm with shocking bite force!

The mustachioed hunter clearly didn't have Freud's kind of tough body. Put simply, he was a high-damage, low-defense shooter who'd just taken critical damage.

For some reason, the doctor's words echoed in Lucio's mind like a curse: Your arrogance is going to get you killed someday...

"Heh, damn thing..."

The monster shook the bitterly smiling mustached man and threw him away. The hunter's blood sprayed everywhere, covering the monster.

Seeing the third monster appear, the bulging veins on Freud's face pulsed again. He ignored his critically injured partner and drove his blade straight into the fish-tail monster's heart, then forced it through, cutting the thing in half.

In that moment, he exploded with even more terrifying speed—already beyond the limits of what a human body could achieve. That powerful elongated fish monster couldn't even touch his shadow before he appeared behind the distant fish-head monster.

Without the fish-tail monster splitting the barrier, this creature instantly got slammed to the ground by a powerful repelling force.

The doctor seemed to have reached this totally natural state in using his ritual ability. He'd evolved the barrier field into repulsion and could even freely control the direction of the rejection!

Now what he needed to do was keep separating this isolated monster from the other two and kill it first!

These fish monsters' recovery ability wasn't unlimited. As the fish corpses on the ground gradually got eaten up, they couldn't recover many more times. As long as the barrier field didn't get disrupted, Freud could keep beating down one fish monster...

Assuming he could hold out himself.

"I can do this... the demonization potion hasn't reached its limit yet. I can go deeper... God, You'll forgive me, right?"

Freud bit down with his viciously protruding canines and kicked the fish monster. Combined with the massive repulsion, the monster immediately got launched way off into the distance.

As for Lucio, he still had a chance to use his hunter potion. He wouldn't die...

The doctor prayed his partner would be lucky enough to survive, but those two monsters didn't see it that way.

The elongated fish monster charged toward the fallen Lucio. The mustached man struggled to inject hunter's blood into his chest and barely rolled away from the fish monster's heavy strike.

The other fish-tail monster chased after Freud. It seemed pretty desperate.

Because that terrifying doctor was using massive repulsion to push its "head" farther and farther away while running, and while running he was punching holes through those fish heads at insane speed.

The long blade seemed unstoppable under the repulsion field's enhancement. The fish-head monster had no ability to resist and could only wail.

The situation seemed to be developing toward an increasingly extreme direction.

Just then, a thunderous boom suddenly rang out from the warehouse. Two powerful blood bullets slammed into the ground under the fish-tail monster and the elongated fish monster respectively.

The aim wasn't great, but they blasted two huge holes in the brick and stone floor, making both monsters pause at the same time.

Right after that, Lucio saw a red fist burst out from the monster's chest in front of him. A massive force exploded from inside its body, directly inflating and bursting the entire monster like a balloon!

The incredibly stinking fish blood sprayed all over the mustached man's stunned face.

The long fish monster went limp and collapsed.

This time it didn't recover. That punch had been way too powerful—it got killed outright...

The fish monsters weren't immortal like Montaigne. They just absorbed fish corpses to recover whenever their health hit bottom.

The other monster covered in fish tails froze for a moment. It turned to look at the dark warehouse, only to see another red fist flying toward its face.

SPLAT—!

Another huge pile of bloody fish flesh exploded in front of the warehouse entrance.

David walked out from inside the warehouse. Looking at the mess everywhere, he frowned and covered his nose, but inside he was pretty satisfied with those two punches.

The Hand of Divine Corpse really didn't disappoint. Just from devouring that other arm, it had advanced to level 2, and its effects had changed in a surprisingly delightful way.

Now he could use both Hands of Divine Corpse at once.

This meant he could use the arms more flexibly while also dealing double the damage for the same cost!

Just like those two punches—he'd only spent 5,000 psychic energy and directly blasted both monsters to pieces.

Such an insane improvement—worthy of being a god's arm...

The only slight disappointment was that upgrading the Hand of Divine Corpse didn't reduce its cooldown. He still couldn't change the fact that this arm could only be used as an ultimate move.

While he was thinking, a desperate roar came from the distance at the dock. With the death of the two fish monsters, the other monster the doctor had pushed away also quickly died miserably while wailing.

It was too far from the fish swarm. Without being able to devour fish corpses to recover, it was no match at all for a high-tier hunter who'd pushed his ritual power to the extreme.

...

Freud, covered head to toe in blood, quickly rushed back. The veins on his face had already receded, and his eyes looked extremely exhausted.

Seeing David helping up the one-armed Lucio, he finally let out a reluctant sigh of relief.

"Lucio, looks like you're gonna have to take a trip to my 'man-eating' clinic." The doctor grinned and waved the arm he'd retrieved from the monster's mouth. His smile looked pretty creepy.

Pale-faced Lucio rolled his eyes, not in the mood to argue with the doctor.

Meanwhile, David quietly absorbed the arm from the corpse chunks on the ground without anyone noticing, raising his life energy limit by another 10,000 points.

Now every single bit of life energy increase gave David's Hand of Divine Corpse double the benefit. He'd claim whatever power he could.

Freud turned to look at the ground covered in corpse chunks, then looked at David with a strange expression.

"Lord David, Commander Fernandes said you were just a first-tier hunter... he's not going senile, is he?"

David responded without changing expression, "I'm preparing to advance to second-tier."

Seeing that David didn't seem to plan on explaining anything, the doctor smiled indifferently. "Well then, congratulations."

Some dock workers were drawn over by the commotion. When they saw all the blood and gore, they immediately stopped in their tracks, only daring to watch from a distance.

David and Freud searched through that warehouse, and only after confirming there were no evil remnants left inside did they leave with the critically injured Lucio.

During this time, they also "found" some clues about the cult.

Of course, these things were deliberately left by the Shattered Church for the hunters. All the evidence pointed to another evil god.

The Mother of Flesh... the dark evil god who ruled over rebirth and flesh.
