At the border of the eastern and western realms, Xuanzang and his disciples were on their journey, while Sun Wukong was teasing Zhu Bajie.
"You idiot, you can't move when you see a pretty girl and almost got yourself married into the Bodhisattva's family!"
The once Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy, now with a big head and large ears, no longer showed the heroic spirit of the past. Well, there wasn't much of that back then either.
"Stop teasing, stop teasing, who would have thought the Bodhisattvas would trick me like this."
Xuanzang looked helplessly at his two disciples; they were powerful but not one of them was worry-free. Sometimes he thought perhaps this was just another tribulation on the way to fetch the scriptures.
Sun Wukong, carrying the Jingu Bang, was immensely amused. Earlier, when passing by a household, he saw from afar that it was shrouded in Buddhist light, exuding a noble aura. After looking for a long time, he couldn't figure out who it was, as the surging golden light seemed even more terrifying than the Tathagata.
The monkey, now wise, went in and stood like a minion, just watching his newly taken junior apprentice perform. His feeling at that time was that this Wengong was truly daring.
Wonderful, wonderful!
Of course, the ones who came were the Lishan Old Mother, Guanyin, Manjusri, and Puxian. This time, the Lishan Old Mother's appearance was obviously for her disciple, Nezha.
It wasn't for anything else, just to add weight to the scripture-fetching matter. With her appearance, what wasn't related to becoming a Saint became related. Wouldn't it be necessary for a Saint to make an appearance if it wasn't related?
Open attacks are easy to dodge, hidden arrows are hard to prevent. Luring the enemy out first to solve them should not be left for later. That was her reason for showing up.
The four disciples were unaware that this seemingly playful trouble would open their hellish road to fetching the scriptures.
However, Sun Wukong and the others did not know of this, and even thought that this tribulation was not difficult at all. Now the morale of the entire team was very high.
After walking for a while, they arrived at Longevity Mountain, where Zhen Yuanzi had already made arrangements.
Arriving outside Wuzhuang Temple, they saw the inscription on the door: The Immortal Abode of Eternal Youth, Where Daoists Live As Long As Heaven.
Sun Wukong pursed his lips thinking that the inscription was a bit boastful. He himself was called the Great Sage Equaling Heaven, yet on this journey, first he couldn't handle a black charcoal ball, and then a large rat blew wind into his eyes.
Zhu Bajie instinctively rubbed his eyes, wondering if this was the Wuzhuang Temple he knew.
He couldn't quite believe it and could only pretend he knew nothing by remaining silent.
As for Sha Wujing, he truly didn't know. His cultivation was low before, and he spent his days rolling up the curtains for Hao Tian, adding to his simple nature and limited experience.
As they were discussing, the door of Wuzhuang Temple opened, and two elegant immortal children walked out.
"Esteemed elders on the journey to the West, please come in."
Seeing their courtesy and demeanor, Xuanzang decided to enter the temple with his three disciples. In the middle of the five facing sunny halls, they worshipped the two words 'Heaven and Earth.'
Xuanzang respectfully bowed and then asked, "Other Daoist temples either worship The Three Pure Ones or the Four Imperial Emperors and Daluo Immortals. Why does your temple only worship Heaven and Earth?"
Qingfeng proudly said, "To be honest with you, Master, while 'Heaven' can bear it, 'Earth' does not fully receive our incense offerings. It is just a little flattery from our master."
Ming Yue timely explained, "The Three Pure Ones are our master's friends, the Four Emperors are old acquaintances, the Nine Luminaries are juniors, and the Yuan Chen are subordinates. Only Heaven and Earth receive a bow from our master."
Qingfeng and Ming Yue were not entirely boasting. Zhen Yuanzi was indeed well-regarded, with good conduct and revered by the Three Pure Saints, who acknowledged this old schoolmate, occasionally having tea and discussing Dao.
Sun Wukong did not believe it at all. Although he hadn't met The Three Pure Ones and Four Imperial Emperors, he was quite familiar with most of the Nine Luminaries and Twelve Yuan Chen.
Xuanzang did not think they were boasting, so he asked, "Is your master here?"
"No, our master is visiting the Central Ziwei Emperor for a Daoist discussion."
Sun Wukong felt even more dissatisfied after hearing this.
"What Ziwei Emperor? When I caused havoc in the Heaven Palace, how come I didn't see him?"
Qingfeng and Ming Yue were quite fond of Nezha, and upon hearing Sun Wukong's disparagement, they were somewhat annoyed. However, recalling their master's instructions, they only glared at the monkey without further comment.
Sun Wukong's temperament was indeed lacking; he was just settling down and already becoming arrogant again. Xuanzang sighed, wondering when he could change his nature.
Having offended the others, it would be awkward to beg for food again.
"Bajie, go to the kitchen to prepare some vegetarian meals. After eating, we'll leave some money for the firewood."
Seeing Tang Seng being so considerate, Qingfeng and Ming Yue felt a lot better about him and led him to a room for rest. Meanwhile, they took out the Golden Hammer and Single Plate Vegetarian Cloth and headed to the orchard to pluck two Ginsengfruits.
This Ginseng Fruit Tree was, of course, not real but only a branch, yet the Ginsengfruits on it were genuine. It took 3,000 years to bloom, another 3,000 to fruit, and another 3,000 to ripen, completing a full cycle in 10,000 years. To outsiders, it was indeed a rare treasure, but Zhen Yuanzi's age couldn't be counted in years anymore.
Qingfeng and Ming Yue carried the Ginsengfruits to the room where Tang Seng was. Upon seeing the two holding what looked like two infants, Xuanzang was startled. His mortal body lacked the memories of his past life, and being rigid in thought, he refused to eat no matter how much Qingfeng and Ming Yue persuaded him.
Helpless, Qingfeng and Ming Yue had to take the fruits back and eat them themselves. As for Sun Wukong and the others, they shouldn't even think about it — daring to disparage the Second Elder, even if these fruits bored them, they wouldn't give them any!
Sun Wukong was indifferent, but when Zhu Bajie overheard about the Ginsengfruits, he immediately craved them. These were precious things indeed, and now that he was reincarnated and cultivating anew, he needed such treasures.
