The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 489: Departing Heavenly Empress.

In the courtyard of Wuzhuang Temple, Immortal Zhenyuan was sipping ginseng fruit tea with a sorrowful expression on his face.

"Master has been crying for two days straight, but now he's finally getting better."

Spider Demons whispered behind the trees, "The departure of the Heavenly Emperor hit him really hard."

"His eyes are still red."

They peered out from behind the trees now and then, stealing glances at Immortal Zhenyuan.

Immortal Zhenyuan slammed his teacup on the stone table, "What are you whispering about?"

"Nothing, nothing!"

The Spider Demons quickly jumped out and waved their hands.

"We were just saying… Oh right, we haven't had enough fun in the Underworld, why did we return so soon?"

"Yeah, the resurrection was too quick."

The Spider Demons gathered around Immortal Zhenyuan, chattering incessantly.

Immortal Zhenyuan knew they were lying, but he just snorted coldly and let it go, "With so much merit left by my dear brother, of course resurrection was quick."

Sun Wukong left behind a vast amount of merit when he departed.

That merit let those who sacrificed themselves return.

However, rebuilding the Immortal Body was a huge drain, and the powers of the immortals had not recovered much.

"This power isn't something that can be restored in a day or two."

Immortal Zhenyuan glanced over his disciples, "Are you sure you don't want any ginseng fruit?"

"No thanks!"

The Spider Demons immediately declined.

"If you don't want any, so be it."

Immortal Zhenyuan snorted coldly; outside many immortals crowded, seeking ginseng fruits, which he all refused.

He only offered the opportunity to the Spider Demons.

Since they didn't appreciate it, he wouldn't insist.

Huaguo Mountain, Shuilian Cave.

Immortals stood by the waterfall, engaged in endless discussions.

"The continent that flew away, should we find a way to retrieve it?"

"No, the Earth has just calmed down, doing so might trigger a massive earthquake!"

"And besides, our strength is too weak now, it's impossible to accomplish that."

"Let's wait for the decision of the Fairy."

All the immortals turned their gaze towards the Shuilian Cave, "Now that the Fairy is not concerned with official matters, it's truly worrisome."

They had made decisions about many things, yet everything was put on hold, awaiting Ao Luan's final word.

But Ao Luan was still immersed in grief, and it was not appropriate for the immortals to disturb her.

That was when Emperor Qinghua and Gouchen arrived.

"The Great Emperor."

The immortals had seen their savior arrive and surged forward to greet him.

"No need to say it, we already know."

Emperor Qinghua shook his head, "Such a foolishly affectionate fellow."

"Leave her to me."

A head popped up behind him and spoke.

Only then did the immortals realize that Houtu was laying on Emperor Qinghua's back.

"I have a way."

Houtu jumped down from his back and walked towards the Shuilian Cave.

Emperor Qinghua and Gouchen glanced at each other, then followed her in.

Inside Shuilian Cave, Ao Luan was reading a book, seemingly fine.

But her dim expression, and the fact that the pages of the book hadn't turned for half a day, told the three that her mind was not on the book.

Gouchen angrily said, "Ao Luan, His Majesty handed the Jade Seal to you, not for you to wallow in self-pity here."

Ao Luan, hearing the voice, came to her senses, and looked at the three of them.

"I know."

She said coldly, "Can't I be left alone for a few days?"

"We can't wait for you for a few days."

Gouchen was quite blunt.

"The Three Realms are in disarray, and we don't have the luxury to stop."

Emperor Qinghua looked at Ao Luan and sighed, "His Majesty left you a gift, and Lady Houtu knows where it is."

"If you want it, follow me."

Houtu nodded, "I'll take you there."

"Alright."

Ao Luan stood up and left Shuilian Cave with her.

"Hope she can live up to His Majesty's great trust and quickly pull herself together."

Emperor Qinghua said as he watched their retreating figures.

Ao Luan and her company arrived underground.

At the location of the Spirit Vein beneath Daughter Country, where Spiritual Energy was most abundant, Houtu stopped.

"I can only take you here, you'll need to open the rest of the way with the Jade Seal."

Ao Luan took out the Jade Seal, and a seven-colored light projected a gate out of thin air.

The gate opened, emitting a bright white light.

She passed through the gate alone, and the Langya Blessed Land appeared before her eyes.

Pristine white mists enshrouded the Blessed Land, stalactites, stone flowers, and stone trees glowed as usual with a radiant light.

In the center of the Blessed Land, a towering stele captured Ao Luan's attention.

She stood on the base of the stele, looking at numerous inscriptions on the ground, strong emotions surged in her heart and she couldn't help but feel her eyes welling with tears.

"This is where my brother cultivated."

Ao Luan gently caressed the base, with trembling hands, as if she could still feel Sun Wukong's presence.

An incense burner sat upon the base, and when Ao Luan lifted the lid, a beam of silver light flew out.

"Buzz," the silver light circled in the air for a round and then returned to Ao Luan.

It was a crescent moon-shaped Immortal Artifact.

Crystal clear and refracting beautiful, brilliant light, just like a crystal.

Ao Luan reached out, and the Moon Wheel gently fell into her hand.

Warm, loyal intentions transferred from her palm into her heart, as if it merged with her life force.

"It's called Luanfeng."

A familiar voice suddenly rang out.

That was Sun Wukong's voice.

Ao Luan was dumbstruck, tears unconsciously streaming down her face.

In this space filled with Sun Wukong's presence, she no longer had to disguise herself.

"Woo… Waaaa…"

Ao Luan clung to the Moon Wheel, crying unrestrainedly.

The essence of all human sorrow is, in fact, anger over one's incompetence.

At this moment, Ao Luan finally understood that she was not grieving but was angry at her own inadequacy.

"Woo, waaaah…"

She cried her heart out, her sobs heart-wrenching.

But this was her last cry.

The next day, the immortals received an order and once again arrived at the Shuilian Cave.

"Let's set out."

Ao Luan stood by the throne, her voice clear and firm, "With our wisdom and strength as the wings of the Three Realms, let's find and bring back my brother."

Everyone showed a smile.

That day, they had a true Heavenly Empress.
